Chris Van Allsburg
Chris Van Allsburg is an author and illustrator. He was born on June 18, 1949 in the Grand Rapids, Michigan. As a child he loved telling stories through pictures. One of his favorite ways to do so was to draw comic books. He also liked building models out of clay, sledding and riding bikes. In 5th grade he did more cool things then art such as baseball, playing board games and reading mad magazine.
As an adult he was actually a sculptor before he was an author. When he became an author he had some really good books such as Two Bad Ants, The Garden of Abdul Gasazi, Jumanji, and The Polar Express. His best one was Jumanji. He won the Caldecott Medal for Jumanji.
To make a story he starts with an image in his mind. He makes his illustrations with charcoal to make it black and white. Even with all these good things in his life there was still one bad thing. He had a lonely job.
I really like Chris Van Allsburg’s books because there’s lots of action in them. For example in Jumanji, everything that happens in a board game comes true.
